We held the final of the club members pool competition at club on June 2nd.  The top two seeds reach the final = Christopher Gridley, appearing in his third final, having won just one of them back in 2017,  was playing the defending champion and 14-time's winner of this tournament, Kevin Sweeney.

It was a best-of-five frame final. Kevin won the first quite comfortably but in a tense second frame, the black ball ended up very close to a corner pocket whilst each player was down to their last ball. Something had to give and it was Kevin who accidentally knocked the black ball into the pocket.  The third frame was very decisive – Christopher suddenly hit a purple patch, he pocketed two reds with his opening break off shot, then proceeded in clearing up – There was nothing Kevin could do about it.  Kevin had to win the next frame to stay in the final, but once again Chris was potting balls all over the place and was down to his last red. However, Kevin was fighting back and started playing like we all know he can, he potted all his yellows, Chris potted his last red, so it was a black ball frame.  Both had chances but it was Chris who came up with the decisive pot to win the title.  It was a very entertaining match.  Congratulations to both players. who are pictured below.

A final word about Kevin – he has appeared in 33 indoor sport finals and won 22 of them – an extraordinary record.  But on this occasion Chris was just too good for him,  Chris should be very proud of himself.
