In the early hours of Thursday, April 23rd, My dear friend Margaret Greenway passed away at the grand age of 90. I have to say I was, and always have been, very fond of Margaret, she has supported me and Tanglewood for nearly 50 years. Her daughter is club member Julie Greenway who has been a Tanglewood club member since before 1980, in fact Julie now holds the record of attending the most number of club nights, compered to all the other current members (On Monday April 27th she will have attended 1,789 out of 1,900 clubs since April 14th 1980). Margaret's other daughter Suzanne is now a loyal club helper as, along with her husband David, they drive and escort one of our mini buses to club every week.
So, there is a strong link with the Greenway family. You will not be surprised to learn that Margaret was a founder member of our 100 club, having selected the number 46 back in February 1983. Over those 43 years she paid out £2,372 in monthly subs and had 19 wins – 7 first's, 5 seconds and 7 third's totalling £1,610. Margaret is pictured below attending the 100 clubs 40th anniversary in 1983 and is proudly pictured with the other 5 founder members there that night. She is also pictured with Suzanne and David at my Paul's 40th birthday party the same year.
During the 1080's Julie and I organised, what we called “Family Holidays” where club members AND their parents could join us and a few unaccompanied club members. On June 1st 1985 a whole group set off for a 14-day holiday in Magaluf in Mallorca and Margaret, her husband Wally and daughter Julie were with us. Margaret even contributed to the holiday report which I will re-print in our May Magazine. so the oldest photo I have of Margaret is shown below doing some dance routine by the elegant lady in here early 50's.
On behalf of everyone at Tanglewood I offer my sincere condolences to Julie, Suzanne, husband David, their children and other members of the family and friends. My my loyal and faithful friend rest in glorious peace. I will miss her dearly.
