Quiz No. 3 – This is my favourite. You were asked this – If you place a ten-pence coin on quare No. 1 on a chess board, then places two coins in square No. 2 then 4, 8, 16, 32 etc etc. On every square, put double the number of coins in the previous square.
The answer is simply unreal = by the end of the first row (8 squares, there will be 128 coins). I gave you all a clue last week stating that at the half way point there would be around 2.5 billion coins.
The correct answer is…..The number of coins on square number 64 would be:-
9 Quintillion, 223 quadrillion, 372, Trillion, 36, billion, 854 million, 775 thousand 8 hundred & 8 coins in total = Written in pure maths = 9,223,372.036.854,775,808 coins. Stacked on top of one another they would reach a height of 10 trillion miles meaning that if there was a light burning on the very top coin, that light would take 2 years to reach us.
