Last Monday, February 26th, we held our singles Pool final.  It was the first Pool competition final since 2019 so we were all very excited. The match was between Michael Bird, appearing in his first Tanglewood sports final and Kevin Sweeney.  Kevin's record in this competition is exemplary – he was appearing in his 17th Pool final, having won 13 of them, his very first Pool title was achieved in 1997 (four years after he joined Tanglewood).  In fact Kevin has appeared in 31 indoor sports finals in total.
Obviously Kevin started as the clear favourite but Michael can't be underestimated, he joined Tanglewood only recently and is a good player. However, Kevin won the first two, of five, frames and would have won the third but unfortunately when potting the black ball to win the title, the white cue ball also went into a pocket – gifting the frame to Michael.  The fourth frame was a very tense affair and could have gone either way. Michael knew he had to win the frame to stay in the match but it was not to be.  Kevin, who was was celebrating his 53rd birthday, successfully potted the black to win the match and claim the title for the 14th time.  Congratulations to both players who are pictured below.
