We held the final of our annual Wii bowling game competition at club on the 4th Aug. The two finalist's were Scott Irons and Syed Amin who were playing for the Christopher Davis memorial Trophy. Many of you will remember Chris who sadly passed away back in 2011. His photograph can be seen below in the pictures of the winners. Our guest of honour was Christopher's mother Maureen – she can be seen presenting the prizes.
Scott, who won this event in 2019, was the clear favourite – each player had to get through six rounds of matches to get to the final. It's a real marathon and takes a few months to complete. Scott's average score over this six rounds was an impressive 248, this included a maximum score of 300 in round two. This is the first time that maximum score has been achieved in competition – it means bowling 12 consecutive strikes. It was an incredible achievement. He won every round, except one – round 5 – which was won by Syed.
Syed, who won this tournament in 2018, achieved anaverage score of 201 and in round 5 he scored 255
So the stage was set for what most people thought would be a foregone conclusion. It was a best-of-five leg final. Scott stormed away in the first leg and won it 246 – 192, both players slipped up in the second leg but Scott won it easily 191 – 128. I reminded Syed that he had to win the next leg to stay in the match and win it he did with scores of 195 – 147 in Syed's favour. Syed had suddenly found his form and I think the pressure was getting to Scott, Syed ran away with the fourth leg winning it 199 – 168.
After being 2 – 0 in Scotts favour it was now 2 – 2 and everything depended on the fifth and decisive fifth leg. It was neck and neck all the way though, it could have gone either way. On the all important 10th end Syed could only manage a “Spare” and finished with a score of 192. Scott was on 163 going into the 10th end – he needed three strikes to win the title by one point, nothing else would do. Unfortunately Scott could only manage a spare, he followed that up with a strike but this only gave him 183 and Syed took the title for the second time.
