I am sad to report that former club helper Ron Cole passed away on January 24th. Along with his wife Doreen Ron was a club helper for six years in the early 1990’s – Ron drove one of our minibuses to club every week and then, with Doreen’s help, organsied the tea’s for our club members. He also appeared in three of the helpers pantomime’s most memorably as the giant in our 1993 production of Jack and the Beanstalk – it was brilliant casting because Ron was an extremely tall man. Ron was a true gentleman. An electrician by trade he worked at the Kodak factory in Wealdstone for 33 years. An even more amazing fact was that he and Doreen were married for 66 years! having met whilst they were on holiday on the Isle of Wight. The picture is a bit fuzzy but it does show the both of them and is part of a group photo of club helpers taken 25 years ago.
He was 91 years old.
My sincere condolences go to Doreen and their children and family. The funeral will take place on at 11.30 on Wednesday February 19th at Ruislip Crematorium.
