The final of the Tanglewood singles Darts tournament took place at club on the 14th October between Debbie Brice and Divyesh Jani. We knew before the match started that we would have a new name on the darts singles shield, because although this was Debbie’s 2nd and Divyesh’s 4th final, neither of them had ever won it. We were expecting an exciting match and we weren’t disappointed.
It was a best-of-five leg match = 301 and a “double” is not required to win. Divyesh got off to a flying start and won the first leg with an excellent 70 out-shot. We all thought that he had peaked too early as Debbie came storming back and won the next two legs, including a 51 out-shot. With the score at 2 – 1 in Debbie’s favour, Divyesh had to win the next leg to stay in the match and that is exactly what he did, leaving us with a fifth and decisive winner-takes-all leg.
What an exciting fifth leg it was – scores were level all the way through. Both players were down to single figures and they both had several chances to clinch the title, but their accuracy deserted them until Divyesh stepped up to the oche and threw the decisive dart to win his first Tanglewood singles title. As if that wasn’t enough he also won the highest-score-of-the-tournament prize with his throw of 91 in the first round.
Congratulation to both players on an excellent final. Both payers can be seen receiving their trophies and shield from club helper Caroline.
