Darts Singles Finals 2018

Posted on in Competitions

The final of the club members singles darts tournament took place at club on Nov. 5th between Usha Myanger and Paul Havard.  Usha was appearing in her 3rd Tanglewood sports final and she won this competition two years ago.  Paul on the other hand was appearing in his 26th  sports final. He won the singles title in 2004 and 2015.

The final was a best-of-five leg match. A double is not required to win each leg.

Usha got off to a flying start and won the first two legs. Paul knew he had to win the next leg to stay in the match, he not only did that, but he also won the fourth leg as well.  So once again a darts singles final went to the wire – everything depended on the fifth and decisive leg. They both played really well with several scores in the 70’s.  Both had chances to win but it was Usha who took the title.  A great match. They are both pictured with their trophies and the shield which Usha keeps for a year.  She becomes only the fifth club member to hold both the singles and doubles title at the same time – Valerie Green did it in 1992, Susan Britchford in 1997, Paul Edwards in 1999 and Noel King in 2014.

The highest score of the tournament was 99 thrown by Susan Britchford in the first round.  This is the fourth time that Susan has won the highest score prize – she won it in 2001, 2015 & 2016. Her throw of 125 in 2001 is still the tenth highest score ever thrown in a Tanglewood competition.
