Nintendo Wii Bowling Game Tournament

Posted on in Competitions

The final of our Wii bowling game tournament took place at club on May 14th between Simon Parsons & Syed Amin.  A total of 26 club members took part in a competition that stretched over 7 rounds and took the competition organiser Caroline five weeks to complete.

Our finalist’s were playing for the “Christopher Davis memorial Shield” in memory of club member Chris who died in 2011  His lovely mother Maureen was invited to presented the prizes.

Leading into the final Simon was the clear favourite for the following reasons:-  He was appearing in his 15th Tanglewood sports final, this was Syed’s first ever appearance in a final. Simon was top of the leader board in five of the seven rounds leading up to the final with an average score of 216, Syed, who topped the leader board in the 1st round achieved an average of 189. Simon was holding the highest score of the tournament = 290, he also holds the highest ever score of 299 achieved in the inaugural tournament in 2011 ( That is eleven consecutive strikes followed by nine pins – that is only one short of the maximum possible score in ten-pin bowling). If that wasn’t enough Simon was the defending champion and he also won in 2011 and was runner-up in 2015.

So, the smart money was on Simon and this seemed justified when he took the first leg 200 to 180, He also took the 2nd leg but only just 170 to 167  It looked like it was going to be a 3-0 victory but Syed suddenly found his form winning the third leg 199 to 136. He took the fourth leg too 206 to 181. Against all the odds the final went down to the fifth and decisive leg – with the crowd cheering every delivery it was an exciting final but this excitement seemed to effect Simon more than it did Syed and with a score of 200 to 184 Syed won the match and was very excited to be presented with the winners trophy and shield from Maureen.  Well done Syed and congratulations to Simon for an excellent final and for achieving the highest score of the tournament – 290.

My thanks to Maureen for attending and presenting the trophies.  In the pictures you can see a photograph of Christopher who absolutely loved this game.  My thanks also to Caroline who did an excellent job organising the tournament.  A full list of all the scores by all the players in all the rounds will be published in our June Magazine.
